In 1850 the first Georgian professional dramatic troupe was founded. Nowadays more than 34 theatres function in Georgia. The Tbilisi Opera House was established in 1851. Georgia is proud of famous Georgian ballet dancers such as George Balanchine (original name - Giorgi Balanchivadze) - the founder of New yourk City Ballet, vakhtang Chabukiani (Tbilisi Opera & Ballet Theatre), Vera Paghava (Grand Opera, Paris), Nino Ananiashvili (Formerly Bol'shoy Theatre, Moscow; Danish Royal Theatre, Copenhagen).
A unique style of Georgian theatre can be considered as a national treasure. Under the leadership of great directors as Kote Marjanishvili, Robert Sturua, Mikheil Tumanishvili and others Georgian theater has founded its place in the worlds theatrical life.
Georgian National Ballet, nowadays, well known abroad for unique style of performance, very energetic and refined at the same time; elegant and mannish, reflecting the history traditions and life of Nation.
