The official currency in Georgia is Lari indicated as GEL.

It is the sole legal tender on the territory of Georgia except for the cases envisaged by the Law of Georgia on Free Industrial Zones.


Major hotels, restaurants, shops and other services in Tbilisi and in Batumi accept credit cards. Outside the main cities payments are made mainly in cash.

ATM's are available throughout major cities and towns.


Foreign currency can be exchanged at special exchange shops in the streets of large towns. Currency other than USD, EUR and RR, can be exchanged in the banks.

Monetary transfers are provided by  banks, as well as by Western Union .

 

Lari is subdevided into 100 tetri

Notes are in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 lari.

Coins are in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 tetri, 1 lari and 2 lari.
